Doctors who treated Angelina Jolie are giving details of the operations the actress had to remove both breasts and reconstruct them with implants.

Jolie revealed on Tuesday that she had the surgery because she carries a gene that puts her at high risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer.

A doctor at the Pink Lotus Breast Center in Beverly Hills writes on the center's website that Jolie's mother had breast cancer and died of ovarian cancer, and that her maternal grandmother also had ovarian cancer.

Jolie had three operations in all, and tests showed no sign of cancer in her breasts or lymph nodes. The last operation was on April 27, 10 weeks after her double mastectomy.

Officials: 'Multiple fatalities' in Texas tornado

(AP) ? A tornado ripped through a picturesque lakeside North Texas town on Wednesday, resulting in multiple fatalities and destroying or damaging homes, authorities said.

The tornado ripped through the Brazos River courthouse town of Granbury about 8 p.m. as part of a outbreak of severe weather that plagued the region Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Hardest hit were two neighborhoods, Rancho Brazos Estates and DeCordova Ranch, in the southern end of the town of about 8,000 residents about 65 miles southwest of Dallas, said Hood County sheriff's Lt. Kathy Jiveden.

There were multiple fatalities, she said, but she had no estimate of dead or injured or the number of homes destroyed.

Officers "are going house to house" looking for residents trapped, injured or dead in the rubble of demolished homes near Lake Granbury, Jiveden said.

Rancho Brazos Estates resident Allacia Jenny said she witnessed devastation in her neighborhood.

"The house across from mine looked like it was destroyed," said Jenny, 22.

Toppled large trees litter her yard, and "I saw power lines all over the place," she said.

At Stumpy's Lakeside Grill in Lake Granbury, the storm took diners and workers by surprise. Some people rushed inside from the patio and ducked under tables as the wind gusts and hail started, but nobody was injured, said Eric Martinez, a cook. Then they looked across the lake and saw several homeowners' boat docks "just get torn apart," he said.

"The boat docks just flew off, and they're actually gone," Martinez said, adding that the boards and other debris landed in some yards.

The restaurant didn't appear to sustain any damage, but cars in the parking lot had dents from the large hail, he said.

Donna Martin, the bartender at the VFW in Granbury, said she was watching the clouds circulate in the sky when tornado sirens went off. She said softball-size hail also pounded the area.

Another tornado hit the small town of Millsap, about 40 miles west of Fort Worth. Parker County Judge Mark Kelley said roof damage was reported to several houses and a barn was destroyed, but no injuries were reported.

Hail as large as grapefruit also pelted the area around Mineral Wells on Wednesday evening. A police dispatcher reported only minor damage.

Job open for the taking

WeedenAP

Browns fans know that, on the rare occasions when they?ve gotten high-level quarterback play during the most recent incarnation of the franchise, the performances have come from players who weren?t worried about losing their jobs.

The best ? and worst ? example came in 2007, and then in 2008.? When Derek Anderson inherited the job after Week One starter Charlie Frye promptly was traded following Week One, Anderson and everyone else assumed he was keeping the seat warm for first-rounder Brady Quinn, who wasn?t ready to take over due to a holdout fueled by his perception that he should have been drafted higher in round one than he was.? So Anderson was loose and unworried about losing the job, because he knew he eventually would.

And as we?ve heard Ron Jaworski (and other experts) explain it over the years, a quarterback not worried about losing his job plays with a confidence that allows him not to obsess over each mistake, wondering whether the next one will be the last.

By 2008, when Anderson suddenly had something to lose, he played like it.? And he did.

Current starter Brandon Weeden, whose less than four months younger than Anderson, is trying to play like a guy who has nothing to lose.

?[A]t this position ? which, to me, is the hardest position in sports ? you can?t be looking over your shoulder all the time,? Weeden tells Vic Carucci of ClevelandBrowns.com.? ?You?ve got to worry about what?s most important, and that?s me getting better, building on what I did last year, and continue to grow as a player.? And, if I can do that, and not really worry about what?s going on around me, and kind of have that tunnel vision, that?s going to make me a better player and that?s going to make this team better.?

What?s going on around him is that Colt McCoy has been shipped to San Francisco and veteran Jason Campbell has been brought in to compete with Weeden.? If Weeden worries too much about Campbell, Weeden will grip the ball a little too tightly and wait a little too long to pull the trigger for fear of screwing up, because enough screw ups will result in no screw ups because he won?t be playing.

So while Weeden is wisely saying the right things, telling himself not to worry about what?s going on around him could virtually guarantee that he?ll worry about what?s going on around him.? Which could mean he?ll make enough mistakes to eventually open the door for Campbell.

U.S. Republican sets Friday hearing on IRS Tea Party scrutiny

On last night's Daily Show,?Jon Stewart took on the legitimate scandal at the IRS, which involves the?targeting of Tea Party groups, and explained how it gives conspiracy theorists a leg to stand on. After having a good laugh about how the IRS can just apologize for anything, Stewart went straight to the top: "Well, congratulations, President Barack Obama," he said. "Conspiracy theorists, who generally can survive in anaerobic environments, just had an algae bloom dropped on their f--king heads, thus removing the last arrow in your pro-governance quiver."?

Non-smoking hotel rooms still expose occupants to tobacco smoke

May 13, 2013 ? Non-smokers should give hotels that allow smoking in certain rooms a wide berth, say the authors, and instead choose completely smoke free hotels.

The researchers analysed the surfaces and air quality of rooms for evidence of tobacco smoke pollution (nicotine and 3EP), known as third hand smoke, in a random sample of budget to mid-range hotels in San Diego, California.

Ten hotels in the sample operated complete bans and 30 operated partial smoking bans, providing designated non-smoking rooms.

Non-smokers who spent the night at any of the hotels, provided urine and finger wipe samples to assess their exposure to nicotine and a cancer causing agent found specifically in tobacco smoke -- known as NKK -- as measured by their metabolites cotinine and NNAL.

The findings showed that smoking in hotels left a legacy of tobacco pollution in both smoking and non-smoking rooms. A partial smoking ban did not protect the occupants of non-smoking rooms from exposure to tobacco pollution.

Compared with hotels operating total smoking bans, surface nicotine and air 3EP levels were higher in both non-smoking and smoking rooms of hotels operating partial bans.

Surface nicotine levels were more than twice as high in non-smoking rooms of hotels operating partial bans as those of hotels operating total smoking bans (3.7 ?g/m2 compared with 1.4 ?g/m2), while air levels of 3EP were more than 7 times as high.

Surface and air nicotine levels in rooms where previous guests had smoked were 35 and 22 times higher than those of rooms in hotels operating a total smoking ban.

Air nicotine levels in smoking rooms were significantly higher than in non-smoking rooms; and they were also higher 40% higher in non-smoking rooms of hotels operating partial smoking bans than in those operating total bans.

Similarly, hallway surfaces outside smoking rooms also showed higher nicotine levels than those outside non-smoking rooms.

Non-smokers who stayed in hotels with partial smoking bans also had higher levels of finger nicotine and urinary cotinine than those staying in hotels operating total bans. Urinary NNAL was also significantly higher in those staying in the 10 rooms containing the highest levels of tobacco pollutants.

"Our findings demonstrate that some non-smoking guest rooms in smoking hotels are as polluted with [third hand smoke] as are some smoking rooms," write the authors. They go on to say: "Moreover, non-smoking guests staying in smoking rooms may be exposed to tobacco smoke pollutants at levels found among non-smokers exposed to second hand smoke."

Few countries have adopted a smoking ban that includes hotels, say the authors, but their findings "suggest that it is time to abandon smoke-free exemptions for hotels," they write.

New hotels should operate total smoking bans to protect not only their guests, but also their employees, say the authors. In the meantime, they advise: "Guests who wish to protect themselves from exposure to tobacco smoke should avoid hotels that permit smoking and instead stay in completely smoke-free hotels."
