Option to close Hainault fire station is slammed by treasurer of the London Fire Brigades Union

A FIRE brigade union member has slammed the London Fire Brigade's proposal to close Hainault fire station in the face of possible budget cuts.
The station in New North Road joins 30 others in London on a list of stations which could close as the brigade explores options to save ?50million.
Laurence Brightman, treasurer for the London Fire Brigades Union and firefighter in the capital for 29 years, has called the proposal scandalous.
He said: "The proposals are quite frightening.
"However the brigade dresses it up, these proposals will result in the loss of stations and equipment and will lengthen response times.
"They are putting the public at risk.
"These fire stations were built for a reason, to cover areas where the public needed them - the public are still there and so the stations should stay.
"To justify getting of them to save money is scandalous.
"It will eventually reach a point where when you call 999 you will be told we can't come out, with a fire you can't have that kind of situation occurring."
Woodford fire station in Snakes Lane West, Woodford Green, and Ilford fire station in High Road, Seven Kings, are not included in the report by the London Fire Brigade.
The London Fire Brigades Union has started an online petition to save stations from closure across London.
The petition states: "We demand that the Government holds true to its election pledge that no front line services will be cut and they halt the closure of any London fire station and any job cuts within the London Fire Brigade being imposed by London Mayor Boris Johnson."
So far 1,500 people have signed the petition.
Further details are expected in January when Mayor of London Boris Johnson reveals the brigade's budget for the next financial year.
Any proposals will be subject to a public consultation and a decision on the future of stations is expected in the summer.
